BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast of the ECHL announce today that forward Jackson Leef has re-signed with the Beast through the 2018-19 season.
“Leef loves to compete. He’s a blue-collar kind of player that isn’t afraid of the dirty areas of the ice. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is a warrior out there,” said Manager of Hockey Operations Frederic Lemay.
Leef played four seasons with Westfield State University, which is an NCAA Division III program. Leef had his most productive season in 2016-17, where he recorded 19 goals and 21 assists for a total of 40 points in 26 games. He donned the captaincy his last year with the squad and was named both the NCAA III (MASCAC) First Team All-Conference as well as the NCAA III (MASCAC) Player of the Year.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana native appeared in 44 games with the Beast last season, registering five goals and nine assists during that time. It also marked his first season in the ECHL, after spending the first bit of the 2017-18 season in the SPHL with the Evansville Thunderbolts.
In addition to his time with the Beast, Leef also received a call to the American Hockey League with the Laval Rocket. He suited up for one contest but was unable to get his name on the score sheet.
Leef has been found himself primarily in a shutdown role with the Beast. He’s a high-energy type of player that gives his best effort whenever he hits the ice.
The gritty centre joins a Beast corps that features returning veterans like David Vallorani, Jordan Henry and David Pacan.
